Read below to learn how to Effortlessly get in front of your customers to increase your sales, engagement, and leads.
Let’s get started:
#1 How to Write
Write to one person. Picture yourself sitting across the table from a friend. Try to duplicate the feeling, sincerity, and friendly nature of the conversation. People love to buy from those they like or that’s like them.
#2. Personal Info
Decide on the degree of personal info you’ll share. I often think about Beyonce’; Oprah shared with her early in her career to keep her super personal business to herself, and she has. Yet, she still has millions of followers, whom she calls the beehive. (And they are protective over her!). In fact, she makes millions keeping her personal business under her bosom.
#3. Be consistent
Stick to a uniform format. Your subscribers like all of us, like to know what to expect. Don’t vary too far away from your normal format.
#4 Subject Line
Spend time crafting your subject line. This is one Overly underutilized strategy that many beginner marketers make. When writing a headline, try telling your customers what they should expect from reading your email. Better yet, express what they’ll gain from reading your message or how you are going to help them reach their goals, save money, learn a skill, etc.
Here are 3 tips that will help:
- Research first what your subscribers want.
- Identify their desired format, I.e., video, infographic, text. Etc.
- Run your headline through a headline tester. (“Google” headline tester… most are free)
#5. Avoid Spam
Avoid spam trigger words. There are trigger words that will alert the Spam Police…LOL…. Your ESP (email service provider… wants to protect their business. Keep in mind that you aren’t their only customer. Therefore, they monitor what we’re sending to our subscribers.
In essence, ESP algorithms are getting smarter by the day. Their goal is to keep their business rolling, by eliminating sending spam.
Spam Words Examples that can trigger an alert:
Make$
100% No Risk
Opt-in
“Save”
#1
“FREE”
“Quote”
#6. Steer Clear of Shady Practices
By any means necessary avoid any practices that are unethical, shady, or spammy. Additionally, avoid words that create pointless urgency and pressure. This sounds like force-feeding. Lastly, steer clear of words that make exaggerated claims or guarantees.
Not adhering to the above actions will hurt your deliverability score. Your ESP rates your emails and bases your delivery on your score. The lower your score the fewer emails are sent.
#7.
This is a biggie. How often should you send promotional, advertorial, or sales material to your database? The rule of thumb is to practice the 80/20 rule. Eighty percent of your messages should be informational, educational, or entertaining. Only 20% of your messages should be promotional.
The question is, ask yourself how many emails you receive that are always promoting, eventually, you’ll stop trusting them?
There’s one company that sends us mobile texts frequently, and every text is promotional. I love the company but dislike the fact that they lack email marketing knowledge.
We’re completely turned off by them. Recently, this has happened again with an online marketer. Every single email sent has a slew of affiliate links. As a subscriber it doesn’t feel like they care about us, rather yet they only want to sell their products or services.
Here’s a suggestion, go through your emails and mirror the emails you like. Also, notice the ones you completely ignore.
Take note of the ones that make you feel good. Next, notice the ones that make you feel like a piece of meat. Don’t duplicate them!
Of course, this article is just one piece of the puzzle; a start; they are many other components of email marketing. I’m not saying this to overwhelm you. It’s like baking a cake, you need more than sugar to bake a delicious tasting cake.
